Dhaka Elevated Expressway: Tk 18.5 lakh toll collected in 24 hours

The Dhaka Elevated Expressway witnessed the passage of 22,805 vehicles traveling from Kawla to Farmgate in the first 24 hours of its operation. 

During this period, toll collections amounted to Tk18,52880.

AHMS Akter, project director of Dhaka Elevated Expressway, confirmed the matter on Monday.

Most of the vehicles plying the expressway were private cars, he said.

More than 90% of the total vehicles plying the elevated expressway on the first day were private cars, he also said.

Moreover, some 2,425 vehicles went from Kuril to Farmgate via Banani, 2,892 vehicles from Banani to Kawla via Kuril, and 5,246 vehicles from Farmgate to Mohakhali-Banani-Kuril.

Dhaka Elevated Expressway authorities opened the section from the airport to Farmgate of Dhaka Elevated Expressway for vehicular movement at 6am on Sunday.

However, it takes only 10-12 minutes to reach Farmgate from the airport through the expressway.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who inaugurated the 22.5km stretch of Dhaka Elevated Expressway at 3:30pm on Saturday, travelled on the expressway, making the first toll payment at the airport toll plaza.
