Just hearing their name strikes fear into the hearts of terrorists. These commandos, part of India’s Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have completed their training in the jungles of Durgam, Kashmir.
These Kobra Commandos, which stands for Commando Battalion for Resolute Action, were established in 2009 primarily to combat Maoists. Now, they are being deployed to Jammu and Kashmir in northern and eastern India.
Sources indicate that some units of Kobra Commandos are being transferred from the states of Jharkhand and Bihar to Kashmir. This move is in response to a decrease in Naxalite (Maoist) activity in those areas. They had been undergoing training in the jungles of Kashmir for the past six months, and now they are ready to be deployed in Kashmir Valley.
Currently, the CRPF plays a significant role in counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir. They collaborate with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army in tackling militant activities. However, the Kobra Commandos are now being sent to participate in counter-terrorism operations specifically in Kashmir.
These commandos have received rigorous training in jungle warfare and are skilled in dealing with challenging terrain. They are often referred to as jungle warriors and are well-equipped to handle the tough conditions of the forest.
The decision to deploy the Kobra Commandos to Kashmir comes as a result of a decrease in Naxalite insurgent activities in various parts of India. With their expertise in jungle warfare, these commandos are expected to strengthen the security forces’ efforts in the region.
