Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has cautioned that resorting to arson for election manipulation will not lead to any good results. She stated that a change in government would come through the vote. Those who lack the people’s trust, are not well-organized as a party, and are attempting election manipulation are the ones resorting to arson. The public needs to be aware of them.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during the inauguration of the sale of nomination forms for Awami League’s central committee at the party’s central office on Saturday at Bangabandhu Avenue. She expressed gratitude and appreciation for those parties that have decided to participate in the elections. She emphasized the need for a fair and peaceful election process and prayed for the uninterrupted voting rights of the people.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the citizens to be cautious about those who engage in terrorism for election manipulation. She reminded me that through prolonged struggles, the people have established their voting rights. Therefore, those resorting to terrorism and attempting to manipulate elections through force will not bring any benefit to them. She called on the people to resist such actions.
Referring to the incidents of arson and violence by the BNP and its allies during the 2013-2015 period, which resulted in the loss of life and property, Sheikh Hasina questioned the kind of politics that destroys lives and properties. She condemned the repression and torture unleashed by the BNP-Jamaat on the people.
The Awami League President stated that the party, since its inception in 1949 to uplift the socio-economic development of the distressed, has adhered to its organizational principles. It follows the country’s constitution and has led the nation towards unprecedented socio-economic progress since 2009 under the democratic framework. Sheikh Hasina emphasized the continuity of democratic practices in the country. She asserted that the people, through their votes, will elect their preferred individuals who will legislate and govern the state. This, she stated, is the right of the people, and those who try to snatch it away through arson and terrorism will face resistance from the public. She urged the people to remain vigilant about these issues.
The event began with the collection of nomination forms for the Gopalganj-3 constituency, led by the party’s advisory council member Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed. Sheikh Hasina visited the booth where nomination forms were being sold. Central leaders of the party, including General Secretary Obaidul Quader, were present during the event. After the conclusion of the nomination form sales, the Prime Minister went to the Bangabhaban to meet the President at 11 AM. Thousands of party activists welcomed her with slogans and applause during her arrival and departure. She extended greetings to the activists by waving her hand.
