The individual in question, Manuel Rocha, served as the latest U.S. ambassador in Belgrade. Yesterday, Monday, legal documents were presented against Manuel Rocha in court. During this time, the U.S. Justice Department alleges that Manuel Rocha participated in ‘covert operations’ with the Cuban government since 1981. He has also been accused of providing false information to the United States at various times and holding meetings with Cuban intelligence agencies.
Prior to this, last Friday, the 73-year-old Rocha was arrested. The central investigative agency of the country, the FBI, has conducted an investigation against him. Allegations have been filed against this former diplomat in a federal court in Miami, Florida.
Rocha worked in the U.S. State Department’s Foreign Service for 25 years. During this time, he served as a diplomat in Latin America, including Bolivia and Argentina.
Attorney General Merrick Garland has provided a statement regarding the allegations against Manuel Rocha. He stated that this case against Rocha represents a significant and long-term infiltration of foreign spies within the U.S. government. Garland emphasized that those who have had the opportunity to serve in the U.S. government and betray the trust of the ordinary people by working for foreign powers pose a threat. Working as an agent for a foreign government without authorization is a violation of U.S. law, and such cases must be pursued through the judicial process.
