Winter and Fog, both can Increase

The impact of the cyclone ‘Migzam’ is causing a decrease in the overall temperature across the country in the first week of December. At this time, the minimum temperature across the country has dropped to 13 degrees Celsius. In Tetulia, Panchagarh, a record temperature was recorded on December 3rd, when the temperature dropped to 13.5 degrees Celsius. The following two days in Tetulia also recorded a temperature of 13.5 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest temperature in the current season. However, this is not a normal condition but a specific circumstance.

After the departure of the cyclone, the natural situation is now returning to normal. Winter is bidding farewell, and the feeling of cold is gradually increasing in a usual manner. Even in such normal conditions, the lowest temperature record was set in Tetulia at 13.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the 3rd of December. The weather forecast indicates that the temperature across the country may further decrease on Monday. This will enhance the feeling of cold.

According to the Meteorological Department’s website announcement published yesterday evening, the nighttime temperature may still slightly decrease. Fog may occur from midnight. Moreover, until tomorrow morning, moderate to dense fog is likely to occur in the northern and riverine areas of the country. Similar light to moderate fog may occur in other parts of the country during the same period. Omar Faruk, a meteorologist at the Meteorological Department, mentioned yesterday night on the phone to Prothom Alo that the temperature across the country could drop by one to two degrees Celsius from Monday.

According to meteorologists, when the temperature drops below 24 degrees Celsius, a feeling of cold is experienced. Yesterday, the temperature was slightly below this threshold in Tetulia. Among other areas, the temperature was between 14 to 13 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur, Badalghachi of Naogaon, Syedpur in Nilphamari, and Bogura. In some other regions of the country, the temperature ranged between 16 to 15 degrees Celsius. Additionally, in Dhaka, the minimum temperature dropped to 17.6 degrees Celsius yesterday.

On the other hand, the highest temperature recorded in the country yesterday was in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, where it reached 30.7 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, in Dhaka, the highest temperature recorded was 25.2 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department’s warning suggests that towards the end of December, there might be one or two light to moderate cold waves in some parts of the country.
