A conference on the Regional cooperation in Quality Assurance in Higher Education in SAARC-affiliated countries will be held in the first week of June in Dhaka, as announced by Muhammad Alamgir, Chairman (Additional Responsibility) of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission. He stated that the conference will focus on bringing together the SAARC region’s universities, fostering collaborative attitudes towards education and research development, and discussing initiatives for progress in higher education. Strong collaboration is necessary for achieving regional cooperation in enhancing the quality of higher education.
The panel discussion titled “Regional Co-operation in Quality Assurance in Higher Education” took place virtually on Wednesday. The panelists expressed that without the empowerment of regional networks, cooperation, and assurance of quality education, it would not be possible. Therefore, appropriate steps must be taken to empower the regulatory body of higher education.
Welcoming remarks were made by Sampath Amaratunga, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. Nina Arnhold from the World Bank introduced the Regional Co-operation in Quality Assurance in Higher Education program.
Participants in the panel discussion included Sherab Jyotsna, Program Officer at the Bhutan Council for Quality Assurance and Qualifications, Dr. Archana Thakur, Joint Secretary of India’s UGC, Dr. Abdul Hannan Wahed, Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Qualifications Authority, Prof. Dev Raj Adhikari, Chairman of Nepal’s UGC, and Dr. Nirmali Pallewatte, Director of Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council in Sri Lanka.
