The Prime Minister has announced that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is being equipped with smart technology to ensure border security.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has informed that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is being equipped with modern technology to ensure uninterrupted security at the borders and to combat international crimes. She made this statement as the chief guest at an event organized on Monday (March 4) at the parade ground of the BGB Headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka, marking BGB Day 2024.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that measures are being taken to ensure uninterrupted security at the borders and to combat international crimes using modern technology. A ‘Smart Digital Surveillance and Technical Response System’ has been established to enhance surveillance and combat internal terrorism along the risky border areas.

She mentioned that her government has installed radars on St. Martin’s Island in Cox’s Bazar, Nildumur, and Kachikata Basaman islands to increase vigilance along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. Through the implementation of modern and efficient technology, the surveillance capacity of the BGB has been enhanced. The interest and efficiency of their work will multiply with the enhancement of operational capabilities of BGB through the establishment of modern and efficient technologies.

Sheikh Hasina said, “To make BGB more powerful, we have enacted the ‘Border Guard Bangladesh Act-2010’ and as a modern, powerful, skilled, and tri-dimensional force, BGB has emerged. Now they are capable of performing duties in water, land, and airspace.”

She said, “We have adopted the ‘Border Guard Bangladesh Vision 2041’ to build Border Guard Bangladesh as a globally recognized modern border security force. As we aspire to make Bangladesh a ‘Developed Prosperous Country’ by 2041, we want our BGB to be a smart force.”

The Prime Minister said that in the last 15 years of Awami League government, a total of 35,517 soldiers have been recruited in BGB. 55,187 members have been promoted to various positions, and we have included women members in BGB for the first time. So far, 996 female soldiers have been recruited in BGB.

She said, “According to the BGB Vision 2041, we have plans to create positions for another 15,000 personnel in this force. In addition to providing combat dresses, measures have been taken in every field to make them more advanced, and the Awami League government has initiated various welfare measures for them. We will build BGB as a globally accepted versatile force.”
