The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed its willingness to assist in the overall development of Bangladesh’s health sector. On Friday evening, at Ganobhaban, Dr. Saïma Wazed, WHO’s Regional Director for South-East Asia, discussed these matters with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Dr. Saïma Wazed stated that WHO would support the enhancement of skills among healthcare workers in Bangladesh and ensure universal health coverage. Later, Prime Minister’s speechwriter M. Nazrul Islam briefed journalists on this issue.
Dr. Saïma Wazed further stated that in Bangladesh, as a climate-vulnerable country, they would work to assist women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities during disasters. WHO would also assist Bangladesh in dealing with diseases arising from climate change.
They also emphasized including mental health in all training in the health sector. At this time, the Prime Minister said that WHO is a major partner in the development of Bangladesh’s health sector.
The Prime Minister highlighted various advancements in the health sector, including community clinics. She mentioned that primary healthcare services for women and children are ensured in community clinics, resulting in a reduction in child and maternal mortality rates.
