Today is the birth anniversary of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore

The 163rd birth anniversary of the Bengali icon, symbol of Bengali spiritual freedom and self-reliance, the pioneer of Bengali language and literature, poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore, is observed today, Wednesday (8th May).

Born into the renowned Thakur family of Jorasanko, Kolkata, he was born on the 25th of Boishakh, 1268 Bangabda (1861 AD).

Though 163 years have passed since his birth, his presence still illuminates the life and mind of Bengalis.

His song “Amar Shonar Bangla, Ami Tomay Bhalobashi” is the national anthem of Bangladesh. During the liberation war of this country, his many poems and songs served as boundless inspiration.

In his writings, the unparalleled expression of human emotions, feelings, aspirations, and expressions has occurred. Amidst all the problems and crises of the Bengalis, his songs and poems have woven courage and inspiration. Everything reflects his deep faith and constant longing for peace, welfare, and enlightenment. He has spread these through his multifaceted creative work. His Nobel Prize in literature added glory to the world for the Bengali language and Bengalis. The anthology for which he received this Nobel Prize, that anthology and many other famous works are now on the soil of Bangladesh. His writing “Amar Shonar Bangla” is the national anthem of this country.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the world poet, President Mo. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have delivered separate messages.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the world poet, a detailed program has been undertaken by the government at the national level. As part of the national program, arrangements have been made to celebrate the birth anniversary of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore with due dignity in various places including his birthplace in Naihati, Atre in Nawabganj district of Rajshahi, Kushtia’s Shilaidaha Kuthibari, Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur, and Dakshindihi and Pithabhogi in Khulna with appropriate administrative arrangements. In this context, Rabindra Melas, discussions on Rabindranath, and cultural events have been organized.

On the occasion of the poet guru’s birth anniversary, a launching ceremony of a program has been organized at 11 am at the National Theatre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Milonayatan. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will inaugurate the three-day program series.

On the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti, a Rabindra Festival will be held at Chayanot Milonayatan on 25th and 26th Boishakh (8th and 9th May). The program will start every day at 7 p.m. This two-day festival will feature solo and group songs, dances, and recitations. Besides the artists of Chayanot, invited artists and troupes will participate. This festival, held at Chayanot Milonayatan, is open to all.
