Today (June 10) on the occasion of Mujib Year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate 50 model mosques and cultural centers through a virtual program from Ganobhaban. This is the first government in Bangladesh and the world to build 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers together.
According to the officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, 560 mosques are being constructed in each district and upazila under the project titled ‘Establishment of Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers’. In the first phase, construction of 50 model mosques has been completed. It is going to be the largest mosque project in the world.
The mosque is one of the places where brotherhood and good relations develop. The capital city is called the city of mosques. There are many mosques in different parts of the world, including Bangladesh, combining innumerable scenic and unique architectural styles. This is the first time in the world that such a large number of mosques of the same model and modern architecture have been inaugurated in Bangladesh with not only prayers but also about 20 other facilities in a mosque. The government is spending Tk 6,722 crore to build these 560 mosques and Islamic cultural centers in three categories.
State Minister for Religion MD. Faridul Haque Khan said, these model mosques and cultural centers would play a role in spreading Islam as well as preventing terrorism, militancy and violence against women and raising public awareness about the government’s development activities.
