Construction of the Dhaka Underground Metrorail will begin in March next year and Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) plans to launch passenger transport in 2026.
The managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) said the construction of the first subway in Dhaka will be done through the MRT-1 project under 12 packages. In the first package, depot land development and ancillary infrastructure will be constructed. Tenders have been called for this. The tender process will be completed by next September. He hopes that it will be possible to start the construction of the depot at Pitalganj in Rupganj within six months.
This railway will have two parts. The first part is completely underground. Underground section will be constructed from Dhaka Airport Railway Station to Kamalapur Railway Station. Its length is 19.87 kilometers. The flyover will be constructed from Kamalapur to Purbachal. Its length is 11.36 kilometers.
The government is planning to build 238 km long subway on 11 routes of Dhaka metropolis. The process of preparing the initial design of four routes has also started. It is learned that these railways will be constructed under the bridge department. The bridge department planned the subway about four years ago. So far, the feasibility study and preliminary design of the project has progressed by 64 percent.
According to the bridge department, if this project is implemented, half of the 8 million working people in Dhaka city will be able to move underground. As a result, go to the surface of the soil and reduce congestion. Working hours will be saved, the unbearable suffering of traffic jams will be relieved.
Moreover, the country’s first metro rail may be launched in December 2021 for the first time. In the meantime, the construction work of the flyover of this project from Diabari in Uttara of the capital to Agargaon has been completed. Meanwhile, the construction work of that part of the railway line and station is also at the final stage. Two coaches made in Japan arrived in the country. The rest will come soon. Apart from this, the work from Agargaon to Motijheel is also going on at a fast pace.
