The budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 will be pass today

The budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 will be pass today in the time of the rising case of coronavirus infection. On Tuesday (June 29), Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed passing the bill. Later it was passed by voice vote.

The size of the proposed budget titled ‘Priority of Life and Livelihood, Bangladesh of the Future’ is estimated at Tk. On June 3, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presented the budget for the fiscal year 2021-22. After two days of discussions, the supplementary budget for the current fiscal year 2020-21 was passed. After that, the general discussion on the budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 started for four consecutive days with a break of a week. After a break of 10 more days, the budget was discussed for two more days.

The budget discussion ended on Tuesday with speeches by Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Golam Mohammad Quader, Jatiya Party-JP President Anwar Hossain and Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal. Then the money bill is passed. In all, about 100 MPs discussed the budget this time, according to Parliament Secretariat sources.

The proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 is the largest in the history of the country. In the 50th budget, the amount of deficit including grants is 2 lakh 11 thousand 191 crores. Which is 6.2 per cent of GDP. Excluding the grant, the deficit amounts to Tk 2 lakh 14 thousand 681 crores.

In this year’s budget, priority has been given to the marginalized people of the country. The health sector has been given the most importance in the budget. Besides, the implementation of incentive packages announced by the Prime Minister, the agricultural sector, food production and management have been given more importance in tackling COVID-19.

The budget will be passed through the passage of the specification bill. Earlier on June 3, the finance minister presented the budget in the parliament. After that, the proposed budget was discussed at length in the Parliament session.
