5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes different parts of Bangladesh

The quake affected Dhaka, Kushtia, Dinajpur, Habiganj, Nilphamari, Mymensingh and other parts of the country. Its magnitude was 5.3 on the Richter scale.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) website said, the quake’s epicenter was near the border between Assam and Meghalaya. The epicenter was reported seven kilometers south of Lakhipur on the Meghalaya border.

Earthquake Observation and Research Center at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department official said, “From the capital Dhaka 242 kilometers north of the quake’s epicenter was Lakhipure. Its magnitude is 5.3 on the Richter scale. It is a moderate type of earthquake. The quake struck at 9:15 a.m. today. “

Although, many in Dhaka did not realize it was low in the morning, some residents confirmed that tremors were also felt in Dhaka. There were no immediate reports of injuries or severe damage.

People were a little scared when they felt the earthquake, but the panic subsided after a while because of its low stability and the feeling of a mild tremor.
