Sheikh Hasina’s imprisonment day is celebrated

The imprisonment day of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has been celebrated all over the country including Dhaka on Friday. On this occasion, prayers and milad mahfil, discussion meetings and clothes and food have been distributed among the helpless.

Awami League and its affiliates and various organizations observed the day on Friday, avoiding public gatherings.

On the occasion of Dhaka South Awami League Day, a short discussion and prayer mahfil was organized on the second floor of the central office on Bangabandhu Avenue following the hygiene rules.

Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader joined the meeting from his official residence as the chief guest.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the day, Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League distributed food items among the needy at Solmaid High School ground of Bhatara Police Station. Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim was present as the chief guest on the occasion.

Awami Swechchhasebak League organized a milad and prayer mahfil at the office of the organization at 19 Bangabandhu Avenue on the occasion of Sheikh Hasina’s imprisonment day at 11 am. It was presided over by Nirmal Ranjan Guha, President of Swechchhasebak League. General Secretary AKM Afzalur Rahman Babu was present. In it, prayers were offered for the long life of Sheikh Hasina.

The Awami Juba League organized a milad and prayer mahfil on Bangabandhu Avenue after Asr to wish Sheikh Hasina long life and recovery. Besides, Milad and Doa mahfils were held all over the country on the initiative of Juba League.

Sheikh Hasina was arrested on the morning of July 16, 2007 from the residence of Awami League President Sudhasadan. He was later arrested in several cases and kept in a special jail in the Parliament building area. Leaders and activists of all levels of the party erupted in protest. Gradually it becomes intense. In the face of national and international pressure, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina was released on eight weeks bail for advanced treatment. The day after his release, he went to the United States for medical treatment. After treatment, Sheikh Hasina returned to the country on November 8, 2008. He was then granted permanent bail. Later, with the victory in the national elections on December 29, 2008, a grand alliance government including the Awami League was formed on January 6, 2009. Sheikh Hasina became the Prime Minister for the second time.
