Shamsul Alam will be sworn in as state minister for Planning

Shamsul Alam will be sworn in as state minister for Planning. He is a former member of the General Economics Department (GED) of the Planning Commission. He will be sworn in as a cabinet member next Sunday (July 18) at 7.30 pm.

Former teacher of Bangladesh Agricultural University Professor Shamsul Alam joined as a member of the Planning Commission on July 1, 2009 after 35 years of teaching. He has been the Senior Secretary for a long period of time on contract basis. His last contract expired on June 30.

According to the Cabinet Division, the file for the appointment of Shamsul Alam has been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office. He will be sworn in at Bangabhaban on Sunday and a notification may be issued on the same day. Shamsul Alam can be the Minister of State in the Ministry of Planning. However, no information has been received about the reshuffle in any other ministry so far.

Dr. Alam was invited to take oath on Sunday from the cabinet department. Shamsul Haque himself informed the media. He said, “Inshallah, I will fulfill the new responsibilities given to me by the Hon’ble Prime Minister with confidence and trust.”

M. A. Mannan is currently in charge of the planning minister. The cabinet now has 25 ministers, 19 state ministers and three deputy ministers. If a new one is added, there will be 20 state ministers.
