AL to launch campaign to make mass inoculation a success: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the party leaders and workers to launch a mass campaign across the country to make the government’s mass vaccination program a success.

He disclosed this while speaking at a special meeting with the presidents and general secretaries of the AL Dhaka city units and its affiliated organisations here.

The meeting was arranged at the AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office aiming to coordinate the party’s program, taken on the occasion of the Mourning Month – August, and inspire the country’s people to make the mass inoculation programme a success.

Presiding over the meeting, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the mass vaccination program will begin at ward level of union parishads across the country on August 7 and it will continue till August 14.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already instructed the leaders and workers of the ruling AL and its affiliated bodies to make this vaccination program a success,” he said.

The AL general secretary said the party’s leaders and workers at all levels will take the vaccines as well as they will encourage people to get vaccinated.

Quader said the mass inoculation program will be carried out at district, upazila, union and ward levels, while the leaders and workers of the AL and its affiliated bodies must play a responsible role in making the campaign a success.

“They must take vaccines and motivate people to get vaccinated. This is the instruction of our leader,” he added.

Observing that the coronavirus infections are on the rise in the country, the AL general secretary said all should follow the health guidelines and restrictions announced by the government.

Coming down heavily on BNP for carrying out propaganda against the government, he said although the government is taking proper steps to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the BNP continues making falsehood.

Quader said when the month of August comes, the BNP’s annoyance goes up. “And denying the history, the party wants to cover up its offences,” he added.

He said the involvement of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in Bangabandhu’s killing was reflected in the confessional statements of the Bangabandhu’s self-declared killers.

The killers wanted to stop the progress of Bangladesh by killing Bangabandhu, Quader said, adding that in absence of the Father of the Nation, his daughter Sheikh Hasina is leading the country to take it forward.

AL presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque and Abdur Rahman, its joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Dr Dipu Moni, Dr Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, organising secretaries Ahmed Hossain, Abu Syeed Al Mahmud, SM Kamal Hossain, Mirza Azam and Afzal Hossain, liberation war affairs secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, cultural affairs secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, labour secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, science and technology secretary Engineer Abdus Sabur, women affairs secretary Meher Afroz Chumki, education affairs secretary Samsunnahar Champa, office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, deputy publicity secretary Aminul Islam Amin and deputy office secretary Sayem Khan were, among others, were present.
