75 million doses of Sinopharm will come from China: Health Minister

Sinopharma will sign an agreement with China to vaccinate another 65 million doses. Earlier, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek said an agreement had been reached with the country for 15 million doses of vaccine.

He made the remarks while inaugurating the Covid Field Hospital of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at 12 noon on Saturday (August 7).

The minister said, they have started sending 15 million dose vaccines contracted with China. We will sign another 60 million dose ticker agreement from China. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given us this approval.

He said that out of these vaccines, a total of 40 million doses of vaccines will be given in October and November alone. It will come earlier, but a little less.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the 1000-bed field hospital of BSMMU. Regarding the corona infection situation, he said that corona infection is getting worse day by day in the country. There are no empty ICU beds in any of the hospitals. There are 17,000 common beds for covid treatment across the country. However, almost all of them have been admitted to the patient.

Zahid Malek said that besides corona treatment, dengue treatment has to be done in the hospitals now. Physicians and health workers are working tirelessly. But it is time to reduce the infection. There is no opportunity to increase the number of beds in the hospital.

Regarding BSMMU Field Hospital, the Minister said that the journey has started with 357 beds in BSMMU Field Hospital at present. Of these, 40 are ICUs, the rest are central oxygen lines. The hospital will be upgraded to one thousand beds in phases.

Zahid Malek said that there are all kinds of facilities for Covid treatment here. However, not all patients will be admitted here. New patients and dying patients will come here, they will be treated.
