Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, the construction work of the Bus Rapid Transit ‘BRT’ project will be completed in December next year.

“Under the BRT project, a total of 20.50 km of corridors including 4.5 km of elevated roads, 6 flyovers and 25 BRT stations will be constructed,” he said.

The Minister for Road Transport and Bridges said this while inspecting the latest progress of the Greater Dhaka Sustainable Urban Transport Project at Cherag Ali in Gazipur today.

Obaidul Quader said, if the project is implemented, it will be able to transport 20,000 passengers per hour in both directions. The rest is being done by the Road Transport and Highways Department. The corridor will have two reserved BRT lanes, four mixed traffic lanes, two non-mechanical lanes and sidewalks for pedestrians.

He said, at present the overall progress of the project is 63.27 percent. This highway is very bad, which is why the suffering of the people has reached its peak. He expressed hope that this is the last rainy season of suffering. Therefore, the suffering of the people will end only after the end of the monsoon season.

At the time, the Secretary of the Department of Road Transport and Highways. Nazrul Islam, Bridge Department Secretary Abu Bakkar Siddique, Chief Engineer of Roads and Urban Development Department Abdus Sabur and other officials were present.
