Bangladesh Law Commission submitted its ‘Annual Report-2020’ to President MD. Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.
A four-member delegation, led by its chairman Justice ABM Khairul Haque, submitted the report to the President, his deputy press secretary Munshi Jalal Uddin told after the programme.
The delegation apprised the President of the commission’s overall activities and various aspects of the report.
President Hamid said time-befitting law is mandatory; simultaneously the impartial use of it is very important in establishing the rule of laws in the country.
The President called upon the Law Commission to take necessary steps to modernize and update the country’s existing laws.
The head of the state appreciated the law commission’s activities and assured of providing necessary cooperation.
As an independent body, Bangladesh Law Commission is set up through an act passed in the Jatiya Sangsad that reviews laws and recommends reforms when necessary in Bangladesh.
Law Commission member Justice ATM Fazle Kabir, President’s Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salahuddin Islam and Secretary (Attachment) Md Wahidul Islam Khan, among others, were present.
