Lack of doctors and nurses in the country: Health Minister

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that there is a shortage of doctors and nurses in the health sector of the country.

He made the remarks while inaugurating 15 new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds at the National Chest Disease Institute and Hospital in Mohakhali on Thursday (June 2).

Zahid Maleque said, our installations and equipment have become a lot. But there is a shortage of doctors and nurses. What we need. Lots of equipment, but not repairs.

Considering the issue of one crore 20 lakh vaccines being administered in one day against corona, the health minister also remarked that Bangladesh is number one in the world. “We have won first place in South Asia by controlling Covid,” he said. And fifth in the whole world. We have given one crore 20 lakh vaccines in one day. We are number one in the world considering that. This is our position as we have all worked together. It has been possible with the cooperation of everyone.

“Bangladesh still has a long way to go in the health sector,” he said. There is a lot of work to be done. We also have future plans. We have undertaken various projects including building hospitals to take the health sector in a better position. The Medical Waste Management project has already been approved.

The minister said the government has plans to digitize the country’s hospital system.

With the opening of 15 new ICU beds at the National Chest Diseases Institute and Hospital, the total number of ICUs is 25. Earlier, there were 10 intensive care units (ICUs) in room number one. 10 new ICU beds have been added in room number two and five more ICU beds have been added on the five floors of the hospital’s asthma building.

Regarding the inauguration of the new ICU bed, Zahid Maleque said that the new ICU hospital has opened a new direction in patient care. Through this the patients will get more improved services from the hospital.

Director General of the Department of Health. ABM Khurshid Alam, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Khurshid Alam was present on the occasion.
