Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, President of the Awami League, has stated that there is no justification for the anti-quota movement. She mentioned that the High Court has given a verdict, and the solution must come from the High Court itself.
She made these remarks on Sunday morning (July 7) at Ganabhaban during a courtesy meeting with the central committee members of the Jubo Mohila League on the occasion of its founding anniversary.
Sheikh Hasina said, “The High Court has given a verdict; protesting against it in this manner is sub judice (a matter under judicial consideration). We, as a government, cannot speak on it like this.”
She added, “If the High Court gives a verdict, the solution must also come from the High Court. But what is being done in the name of a movement now is wasting study time. I do not think it has any justification.”
The Prime Minister said, “We always abide by the High Court’s verdict. But we see that attempts are being made to rekindle the anti-quota movement. Boys and girls are now engaging in the anti-quota movement, abandoning their studies. Even girls are participating in the movement.”
She added, “I have a question here: of those who previously participated in the anti-quota movement, how many sat for the Public Service Commission exams and how many passed? This needs to be ascertained.”
Sheikh Hasina noted, “The quota system was abolished once. But what was the outcome? If we look at the statistics from the Public Service Commission, we will see that the opportunities women had with the quota system are no longer available to them in these few years.”
The Prime Minister said, “Many districts and remote areas, the people from those regions have been deprived. They are not getting jobs either. It is due to such deprivation that someone files a case, and the High Court gives a verdict.”
