The government will honor 13 persons with Agricultural Important Persons (AIP) Award 2020 for their significant contribution to the country’s agriculture sector.
The award, which was introduced first by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1973 to inspire people to work for the development of the country’s agriculture, will be handed over to 13 persons by Agriculture Minister Dr. Abdur Razzaque at a function to be held at Osmani Memorial auditorium tomorrow.
“Bangabandhu had taken various steps for the development of the country’s agriculture sector to ensure food security . . . as part of these initiatives, Bangabandhu Award Fund was formed in 1973, but it was discontinued after the assassination of Bangabandhu and most of his family member in 1975,” said agriculture minister Abdur Razzaque at a press conference at his secretariat office today.
Of the 13 persons, he said four persons will be awarded the award in the agricultural innovation category, six will get the award in the agricultural production, one person will receive the award from the government registered agricultural organization category and two persons will receive the award in the Bangabandhu agriculture gold medal category.
After assuming power in 2009, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reorganized the Bangabandhu Award Fund.
Under the competent leadership of the Prime Minister, Bangladesh has achieved incredible success in agricultural production and food security, he said, adding that the present government continues its efforts to ensure safe and nutritious food for all people in the country.
“We want to promote agriculture as a commercial and respectable profession in the future. According to the AIP policy, maximum 45 people will be honored with this award in five categories every year,” he said.
Secretary of Agriculture Md Saidul Islam and senior officers of the ministry were present at the press conference.
