Prime Minister criticizes BNP for calling for agitation during Ramadan

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina have criticized BNP for calling for a movement ignoring the sanctity and peace of Ramadan. He called upon the countrymen to be vigilant against any agitation against development. On the occasion of the 53rd Independence and National Day, the Prime Minister made this call at a discussion meeting organized by the Awami League at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital on Monday. He presided over the discussion meeting. Sheikh Hasina said, “They (BNP) have announced the movement in this month of Ramadan too. At least in this month of Ramadan, he gave relief to the people from agitation. The Prime Minister reminded the countrymen that 17 workers were shot dead by Khaleda Zia’s government during the Ramzan month wage hike agitation. Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Those who shoot and kill people in the month of Ramadan, how will they show respect to the month of Ramadan? That is why they have called for agitation this month. They have no feelings for the holy month of Ramadan and people’s suffering. Prime Minister said that Awami League has decided to distribute this money and food among them to ease the suffering of common people during Ramadan without holding any iftar party. Sheikh Hasina said the world community is forced to describe Bangladesh as a role model for development. But he severely criticized BNP leaders and some so-called intellectuals for not seeing democracy and development in Bangladesh. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader among other leaders spoke on occasion. Awami League publicity and publication secretary Abdus Sobhan and vice president Syed Abdul Awal Shamim moderated the discussion.
