Today is Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming day

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home on this day after a long exile after Bangabandhu’s assassination. Awami League President Sheikh Hasina returned home 42 years ago today. After the assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975, millions of people welcomed him on this day (May 17, 1981) when She returned to his country after a long exile. Since then, Awami League and its affiliates and organizations have celebrated Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming day through various programs. On August 15, 1975, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and most of his family members were killed. His two daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana survived as they were outside the country. During her stay abroad, Sheikh Hasina was elected as party president in the Awami League National Conference held on February 14, 15 and 16, 1981.  Aamir Hossain Amu was Awami League’s youth affairs secretary and Jubo League chairman at that time. He is now a member of the party’s advisory board. Amir Hossain Amu told Prothom Alo yesterday afternoon that after the 1975 reshuffle, the politics of breaking up the party was going on, while on the other hand, there was a conflict in the Awami League. In that background, he was elected president of the Awami League in the absence of Sheikh Hasina as a symbol of unity in the party. Amir Hossain Amu said that after Sheikh Hasina was elected as the president of the Awami League, the party’s senior leaders went to Delhi and informed him about the matter. After a long exile, he returned to the country in 1981. Since then, Sheikh Hasina has been leading the Awami League for more than four decades. Awami League came to power for the first time under his leadership in 1996. After that, the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina has been in power for three consecutive terms since 2009. On the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming day, Awami League, its affiliates, and fraternal organizations will hold various programs across the country including Dhaka. A delegation of Awami League will go to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganobhaban at 11 am today to greet her. A discussion meeting will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center at the initiative of Awami League at 3:30 pm. On the occasion of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming day, party general secretary Obaidul Quader said in a statement yesterday that Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina has restored the lost democracy of Bangladesh after 1975. Under his leadership, the Bengali nation is moving forward to build a prosperous and prosperous ‘Smart Bangladesh’, free from hunger and poverty.
