National Road Safety Day to be Observed Across the Country Today

Dhaka: National Road Safety Day is being observed nationwide on Sunday (October 22). This year, the day is being observed for the seventh time under government initiative with the slogan “Let’s follow the law on the road and build a smart Bangladesh.”

The demand to observe October 22 as National Road Safety Day was raised by the Safe Roads Movement (Nisscha), led by actor Elias Khan, to prevent the rising number of road accidents.

Since 1993, the organization has been observing this day as National Road Safety Day every year. Following Nisscha’s demand, the Cabinet meeting on June 5, 2017, decided and approved to observe October 22 as National Road Safety Day.

As a result, October 22 has been observed as National Road Safety Day under government initiative since 2017. As in previous years, various organizations, including Nisscha, are also conducting extensive programs alongside government programs this year.

The president and Prime Minister have given separate messages during the day.

To mark the day, ‘Nischa’ (Nirapad Sarak Chai) is conducting a month-long program from October 1 to 31, including awareness seminars, discussions, rallies, publication, and distribution of souvenirs, posters, and leaflets titled “Safe.”
