A person has filed a case in Chittagong alleging mental torture against his wife and in-laws in connection with dowry collection. On Thursday, the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Rumana Aktar heard the case filed by a businessman named Rajib Mazumdar.
The disputants in the case are the complainant’s wife, Hapi Das, her mother-in-law Babita Rani Das, and father-in-law Loknath Chandra Das.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Kanti Nath, stated in the court that the court has directed the Police Crime Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the case.
According to the allegations in the case, Rajib got married to Hapi on February 7 last year. A few days after the marriage, Hapi’s parents began interfering in their married life, leading to various conflicts.
It is further alleged that a few months ago, Hapi pressured Rajib to open an FD (Fixed Deposit) account in a bank for 1.5 million taka in her name. Simultaneously, she also insisted on registering half of a residential building in Pahartali area under her name, causing mental torture to the plaintiff.
Despite efforts by the plaintiff’s family members and neighbors to resolve the matter amicably, they have been unsuccessful. Additionally, it is mentioned in the case that a threat has been made to frame the plaintiff in false cases of women’s harassment and dowry if he does not transfer the property.
