From today, the second session of the Twelfth National Parliament begins.

President Mr. Sahabuddin summoned this session on the 15th of April in accordance with Article 72(1) of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The session will commence at 5:00 PM in the parliamentary chamber of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday, the 2nd of May. Before the commencement of the session, the first meeting of the Parliamentary Advisory Committee will be held.

Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the Speaker of the Parliament, will preside over the opening of the session. Later, a condolence motion will be presented for the untimely demise of Abdul Hai, a member of the Awami League parliamentary party from Jhenaidah-1 constituency. Following parliamentary tradition, discussions will be held on this condolence motion.

According to sources in the Parliament Secretariat, this second session, which will be held before the first budget session of the current government and the Twelfth Parliament in June, will not be as lengthy.

Previously, the first session of the Twelfth National Parliament commenced on January 30th. President Mr. Sahabuddin delivered a speech in the National Parliament at 3:00 PM on the first day of the session. The total number of working days for the session was 22, during which 2 bills were passed.
