The two defenders who Kane has found toughest to face

In the past decade, one of the world’s top strikers and leading scorers was Harry Kane. The 30-year-old English footballer made his mark as a record-breaker at Tottenham Hotspur. However, despite personal achievements, Kane moved away from Tottenham to join Bayern Munich last August.

Despite changing leagues and clubs, Kane hasn’t changed his goal-scoring prowess. In the Bundesliga, as a Bayern player, he has scored 18 goals, the highest among the top five European leagues.

In a football career spanning 14 years, Kane has faced some of the toughest defenders. Two of the most challenging opponents he has faced are former England and Chelsea captain John Terry and former Italy and Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini.

In an interview with ESPN, Kane mentioned these two defenders, saying, “The hardest opponent I’ve faced among defenders has to be Terry. Facing Terry at the start of my career was the most challenging. He is one of the world’s best defenders. Smart and quick-witted. Then I’d say Chiellini. Facing Chiellini when playing against Italy and Juventus was tough too. He’s very clever, knows how to use his body well, very strong, and controls the rhythm of the game.”

Chelsea legend Terry and former Juventus defender Chiellini are regarded by many as among the best center-backs of all time. Terry bid farewell to his playing career in 2018 after winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012. He then chose coaching as his profession and is currently the coach of Chelsea’s academy team, where he has played a significant role in shaping future talents.

At 39, Chiellini, while still playing, has retired from the international stage and planted his roots in the United States, playing for Major League Soccer (MLS) club Los Angeles FC. He captained Italy to victory in Euro 2020. In the final at Wembley, England, under Kane’s leadership, lost in a penalty shootout against Italy. During that match, Chiellini didn’t give Kane much opportunity to score.

Kane’s next match after Bayern’s Bundesliga game is scheduled for the coming Saturday. If they can win against Eintracht Frankfurt on their turf, they’ll rise to the top of the points table, surpassing Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Kane’s team faced a postponement due to heavy snowfall in their match against Union Berlin last Saturday. Despite the interruption, it’s a “wait and watch” situation for Kane and his team, taking advantage of a week-long break.
