Five Organizations Received the Best VAT Payer Award

Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Bandarban district-based top five VAT contributors have been honored by the VAT department. The awards were presented yesterday at Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View. S. M. Humayun Kabir, a member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), presented plaques and certificates to the heads of the five organizations.

In Chattogram, under the production sector, the recognized entities are The Consolidated Tea and Lands Company (BD) Limited, Esquire Knit Composite Limited in the business sector, and Sena Hotel in the service sector. In Cox’s Bazar, Sayeman Beach Resort Limited received the award in the service sector, and in Bandarban district, Venus Resort and Coffee House received the honor in the service sector.

Commissioner A. K. M. Mahbubur Rahman presented the main article during the event. Mohammad Faiyjur Rahman, Commissioner of Customs, delivered the welcome speech. Others who spoke included Suresh Chandra Biswas, Director General of the Customs Excise and VAT Training Academy, Md. Moyazzem Hossain, Commissioner of Customs and VAT Appeal, Md. Shahadat Hossain Sikder, Tax Commissioner, Omar Hazzaz, President of the Chittagong Chamber, A. M. Mahbubur Rahman, Senior Vice President of the Metropolitan Chamber, and Abida Mostafa, Senior Vice President of the Women’s Chamber.

Receiving the Best VAT Contributor award, Mahbub Rahman (Ruhel), Director of Administration of Sayeman Beach Resort Limited, mentioned that the introduction of the automated system has made VAT payment easier. However, he suggested further simplification. He emphasized the need to consider the VAT rate for bringing foreign investment to the tourism sector.

Mahbub Rahman stated that there is fierce competition in the field of VAT, as many are not registered. Bringing everyone into the VAT network will end this uneven competition.
