Sell all wealth and travel the world

The travel enthusiasts, Jan and Melody Hennessy from Florida, United States, have embarked on a unique journey without doing much. Despite having substantial wealth, they sold almost all their possessions to travel the world together.

Jan, 76, and Melody, 64, decided three years ago to pursue their dream of adventurous global travel. They sold nearly all their assets, including their home, and set out on a journey around the world. Using the proceeds from their asset sales, they initially bought a motorhome (a converted vehicle for living) before traveling extensively throughout the United States. Later, they explored neighboring countries and eventually extended their travels to different regions of the world. However, they admit that their approach to traveling in this way is unconventional.

Their journey took an unexpected turn when they came across an advertisement on Facebook offering a 274-day world tour at a discounted rate. Intrigued by the opportunity, Jan and Melody quickly registered as participants. Leaving behind their domestic life, they embarked on a global adventure that has taken them to various parts of the world. Currently, they find themselves in the Dominican Republic.

The Hennessys claim that their expenses for this “sabbatical lifestyle” are lower than their previous household expenditures. Jan Hennessy mentions, “When we used to travel to a country, there would be expenses on credit cards for gas, water, electricity, and internet bills, among other services. Now, we don’t have to worry about home-related expenses or mortgage payments. We are very sure that our lifestyle costs less than a conventional household.” They emphasize that their current lifestyle involves significantly reduced expenses compared to their previous way of life.

Jan and Melody highlight that when their ship docks at a country’s port during their global journey, they usually have the opportunity to explore for five to seven days. They express their intention to continue this adventurous lifestyle until at least December of the following year.

In summary, Jan and Melody Hennessy have chosen an unconventional path, selling their possessions and embracing a nomadic lifestyle, exploring the world without the typical financial burdens associated with a settled life.
