Election: The armed forces have entered the field

The armed forces are deployed across the country in support of the civil administration to conduct the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections in a free, fair, impartial and peaceful manner.

Members of the armed forces were seen in various areas of the capital including Banani, Mohakhali, Nabisco, Malibagh and Khilgaon areas since Wednesday (January 3) morning.

The Armed Forces will assist the Election Commission/Local Civil Administration from January 3-10 to ensure peace and order before polling, on polling day and after polling, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release on Tuesday (January 2).

According to ISPR, personnel of armed forces will be stationed at nodal points and other convenient locations in each district/upazila/metropolitan area. Area-wise deployment of the forces is being carried out at the request and coordination of the concerned Returning Officer.

Army is deployed in 62 districts. BGB will perform sole responsibility in 45 upazilas bordering the plain. Also, in 47 bordering upazilas, the army will perform joint duties with the BGB and in 04 coastal upazilas with the Coast Guard through coordination. The Bangladesh Navy will perform duties in a total of 19 upazilas, including two coastal districts (Bhola and Barguna).

Bangladesh Air Force will provide necessary assistance to polling stations in remote hilly areas through helicopters. The necessary number of helicopters of the Bangladesh Air Force have been kept ready for the purpose of electoral support in urgent need.

A joint coordination cell comprising representatives of various Ministries/Departments and law enforcement agencies has been set up in the Armed Forces Department, which will remain operational till January 10, 2024.

The armed forces have made all-out preparations to provide the necessary assistance to maintain peace and order on the occasion of the upcoming 12th National Assembly Elections 2024.

According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the 12th National Parliament election will be held on January 7.
