The traditional handloom sari of Tangail has been declared a Geographical Indication (GI) product by the Ministry of Industries.
Zakia Sultana, senior secretary of the Ministry of Industry, gave this information on Wednesday (February 7).
The gazette will be published on Thursday.
An application was made by the district administration to the Directorate of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks of the Ministry of Industry to get Tangail saree GI recognition.
Tangail District Commissioner on Tuesday. Kaycharul Islam send the application and necessary documents through e-mail. The hard copy was submitted to the ministry on Wednesday. In view of this, the Directorate of Patents, Designs and Trademarks recognizes this.
