Ocean Resources Research and Exploitation Needed: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stated that it is essential to focus on ocean resources research and exploitation for the economic and social development of the country.

She made these remarks on Thursday (February 22) morning at the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the adoption of the ‘Territorial Waters and Maritime Zones Act, 1974’, organized by the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “We are making special arrangements to implement the Blue Economy in reality.”

She added, “We now have a lot of responsibilities on how we will use the ocean resources. We need to extract our ocean resources, especially our mineral resources such as oil and gas, to contribute to the economic and social development of our country.”

Sheikh Hasina said, “We want to use the vast maritime boundary we have obtained to contribute to the economic and social development of the people of the country. We want to work towards that goal.”

Encouraging foreign investment, the Prime Minister said, “We want to move forward in our country. International investors who want to invest are also encouraged to invest more.”

Sheikh Hasina said, “We have started implementing the Forces Goal 2030. We do not want to engage in wars with anyone. But we must have the capability to protect our independence and sovereignty. Our country is an independent country, so we will ensure the security of our independence.”

She said, “In our country, the vast amount of water, ensuring the security of this water is a very important responsibility of the navy. They are fulfilling it properly.”

Emphasizing on training, the Prime Minister said, “We want our armed forces to be skilled from all sides.”

The event was chaired by the Minister of Shipping, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.

Among others, Secretary of the Navy, Mostafa Kamal, and Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Nazmul Hasan, spoke at the event.

Later, the Prime Minister visited various stalls.
