Tonight is the blessed night of Shab-e-Barat

The esteemed night of Lailatul Baraat, also known as Shab-e-Barat, falls today, Sunday (25th February). This night, observed with due religious reverence and solemnity, is marked throughout the country with prayers and devotion.

On the 14th night of the Islamic month of Shaban, Muslims observe this night as a blessed occasion. Shab-e-Barat conveys the message of seeking forgiveness from sins. It is known as the night of destiny, and it is also called “The Night of Salvation” or “The Night of Forgiveness.”

On this night, Allah extends His mercy to His servants, calling them to seek forgiveness and repentance, inviting them to seek their sustenance. It is a night of blessings and a time for introspection and spiritual reawakening. From the time of Isha until Fajr, believers engage in acts of worship such as prayers, recitation of the Quran, repentance, supplication, and seeking forgiveness. It is also customary for many to visit graveyards and offer prayers for their deceased relatives.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has issued a statement on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, urging everyone to strive for peace and the well-being of humanity in the spirit of Islam. She emphasized the importance of eliminating injustice, misconduct, and corruption from society to establish the principles of Islam at all levels of individual, social, and national life.

To ensure the sanctity of Shab-e-Barat and the peaceful observance of religious rituals, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has prohibited the carrying and bursting of firecrackers and other harmful substances.

Various programs have been organized by the Islamic Foundation on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, including lectures, prayers, Quran recitations, and religious gatherings.

After Maghrib prayers, Hafez Maulana Mufti Mohammad Ruhul Amin, the senior imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, will deliver a sermon on the virtues and significance of Shab-e-Barat. At 8:50 PM, there will be a lecture on the teachings and practices related to Lailatul Baraat based on the Quran and Hadith. Finally, the last congregational prayer will be led by Senior Imam Hafez Maulana Mufti Mijanur Rahman at 5:00 AM.
