The unveiling of the monument of the book ‘Unfinished Memoirs’ by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was held in Thimphu, Bhutan, on Sunday (March 31) during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Bhutan. Princess Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck of Bhutan and Regional Director for Southeast Asia of the World Health Organization and Bangabandhu’s niece and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Wazed. Saima Wazed posted on Facebook on Sunday night about the unveiling of the monument of the book ‘Unfinished Memoirs’ in the Jangka language. She wrote, “A special event today, unveiling of the monument of the translation of my grandmother’s ‘Unfinished Memoirs’ book into the Jangka language with Princess Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck of Bhutan.”
At the monument unveiling ceremony, Bhutan’s Information Minister Mohammed Ali Arafat and Bhutan’s Prime Minister Sheri Ng Tobgay were present.
Also present were Bhutan’s Health Minister Tandin Wangchuk, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Lyonpo Yeshey Penjor, Home Minister Lyonpo Sherub Gyeltshen, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment Namgyal Dorji, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Bhutan, and Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Bhutan, as well as the Head of the Thimphu-based diplomatic mission, Secretary, Educator, Intellectual, Researcher, and Bangladeshi expatriates.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Bhutan, Shiva Nath Ray, delivered a welcome speech at the event. Bangladeshi and Bhutanese students presented the essence of the book at the event, presented some parts of the book in the Jangka, English, and Bengali versions.
Bangladesh Embassy informed that the ‘Unfinished Memoirs’ of the Father of the Nation, written in the Jangka language, will be recognized as a new medium of historical connection between Bangladesh and Bhutan, and the book will be used to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries. The book will also be distributed to libraries, universities, colleges, and research centers in Bhutan, according to the embassy.
