US president providing 300 million in aid to Afghanistan

US President Joe Biden has approved a 100 million fund to meet the urgent needs of Afghan refugees. In addition, another 200 million has been approved for spending in other sectors, including services in Afghanistan. The White House said in a statement on Friday.

This money will be used to address the growing refugee problem in Afghanistan and to bring Afghans loyal to the U.S. on a special immigrant visa.

After coming to power, Biden announced the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan before 11 September. In the meantime, the final process of withdrawing the army has started. All troops will be withdrawn by August 31.

The Taliban have taken control of much of Afghanistan before the withdrawal was complete. Several provincial capitals are also in danger of falling from the hands of government forces.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, the Taliban said, peace would not return to Afghanistan unless the Ashraf Ghani government was removed.

In this context, Ashraf Ghani spoke to Biden on the telephone. The White House said in a statement that Biden and Ghani had agreed that the Taliban’s current offensive was “the exact opposite of a solution to the conflict through mediation.”

The White House said, Biden assured Ashraf Ghani by telephone that the United States would continue diplomatic cooperation “to reach a lasting political solution.”
