13 killed, 40 injured in train accident in Andhra Pradesh, India

In the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, 13 people have died and 40 have been injured in a train accident.

Yesterday, Sunday evening, a collision occurred between two trains in the Vijayawada district of the state, resulting in this tragic incident.

Following this accident on the Howrah-Chennai railway line in the district, the journeys of 18 trains were cancelled. The routes of 22 trains were diverted.

Officials report that due to a signal failure, a passenger train from Visakhapatnam to Palasa was stranded on the railway line. At this time, another passenger train approached from behind and collided with the stranded train. Three coaches were derailed in this incident.

According to Indian Railways, they initially believe that the accident occurred due to human error.

Confirmation of the information regarding the 13 fatalities in the train accident was made by local administration on Monday morning.

The local district administration informs that all those injured in the accident are residents of Andhra Pradesh. The condition of four of them is critical.

Indian Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that apart from the derailed and damaged coaches, everything else has been removed from the accident site by last night.

For the families of those who have lost their lives in the accident, the Railway Minister has announced financial assistance of 1 million rupees each.

And for those who have been seriously injured, they will receive 500,000 rupees each. Minorly injured individuals will receive 50,000 rupees each.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reviewed the overall situation of the accident. He expressed grief for the loss of lives in the accident.

In addition to the 2 million rupees in financial aid for each deceased person’s family, Narendra Modi has announced assistance of 500,000 rupees for each injured person.
