US airstrikes on Iran-allied positions in Syria

On Sunday, the United States carried out airstrikes in two locations in Syria related to Iran. In response to the attacks on Americans, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has announced that this strike has been conducted.

This marks the third time in three weeks that the U.S. military has launched airstrikes in Syria targeting installations associated with Iran. The United States alleges that various groups supported by Iran are carrying out attacks against American forces in Iraq and Syria.

Austin stated in a briefing, “American military forces conducted strikes against facilities used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other Iran-related groups in eastern Syria on Sunday. These strikes were in response to attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria.”

He added, “The attacks were carried out near Al-Bukamal and Mayadin cities, targeting a training facility and a weapons storage site.”

On Wednesday, the U.S. conducted an airstrike on an arms depot related to Iran in Syria. This follows another attack on October 26, where the U.S. targeted two installations in the country.

In recent times, there has been an escalation of attacks against U.S. military personnel by both Israel and Hamas. Approximately 900 American troops are stationed in Syria, and about half that number in Iraq. These forces are deployed to counter the resurgence of ISIS.

Israel’s Airstrike in Syria:

In response to rocket attacks from within the Golan Heights, Israeli fighter jets have launched airstrikes on what they term as a ‘terrorist infrastructure’ inside Syria. The Israeli military reported that its air defense systems intercepted two projectiles fired from Syria into the sparsely populated part of the Golan Heights, triggering rocket alert sirens in the region.

The Israeli military stated on Saturday, “Yesterday (Friday), in response to the rocket fire from the Golan Heights towards Israeli territory, IDF aircraft struck an installation belonging to the Iranian Quds Force in Syria.”

On Saturday, the military reported that two explosive-laden drones were launched from Syria and exploded in an open area in southern Israel, causing damage to a school. On Friday, another drone launch targeted an Israeli military position in southern Israel.

In the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel captured most of the Golan Heights and later annexed it, a move not recognized by the international community. Israel continues to engage in periodic clashes with groups in Syria, particularly Hezbollah, and carries out regular airstrikes in Lebanon and Syria against Iranian-backed targets.
