Today, November 21, is Armed Forces Day. The day will be observed with due dignity and inspiration through various programs. On this occasion, the President and the Chief of the Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. M. Sahabuddin, and the Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate statements.
On the occasion of Armed Forces Day, movement of vehicles in the Dhaka Cantonment area will be restricted. The roads of Dhaka Cantonment (from Shaheed Jahangir Gate to Staff Road) will be kept free of vehicles, except for the vehicles carrying individuals stationed in the cantonment area. The Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) has informed about the restriction on movement in the cantonment area from 7 am to 11 am and from 12 pm to 7 pm.
In all military cantonments, naval bases, and air force bases across the country, special prayers for the welfare, prosperity, and continuous development and progress of the country and the armed forces will be offered after the Fajr prayers with a special prayer at the mosques of the bases.
According to a press release from the Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR), the leaders of the three forces will place wreaths at the Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment, paying tribute to the members of the armed forces who sacrificed themselves in the great War of Independence in 1971. Afterward, the Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hasan, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan will separately place wreaths at Shikha Anirban on behalf of their respective forces.
At the Dhaka Cantonment, in the designated office for the Prime Minister in the Armed Forces Division, the Chief Adviser on Security Affairs to the Prime Minister, the Chiefs of the three forces will exchange greetings with the Prime Minister and spend some time discussing matters of mutual interest. Later, the Chiefs of the three forces will also exchange greetings with the President at Bangabhaban.
On the occasion of the day, in the afternoon, a reception ceremony will be organized in the Sena Kalyan Sangsad (Army Multipurpose Complex) at Dhaka Cantonment by the Prime Minister’s Office. Among the invited guests are the Speaker of the National Parliament, the Chief Justice, former Presidents, opposition leaders in parliament, former chief advisers, ministers, dignitaries with decorated positions, and many others.
