“Next election will be very competitive” Sheikh Hasina

The upcoming elections will be very competitive. Don’t expect anyone from me. You have to win with your work and popularity. Awami League president Sheikh Hasina said this in a meeting with the party’s Trinamool leaders on Thursday. The party president said this in response to some of the Trinamool leaders’ speeches expecting nominations in the upcoming parliamentary elections. In the meeting, a dispute between the members of Parliament and the local leaders of the party came up. Sheikh Hasina said the leaders will run the party. MPs and mayors will not be notified. Awami League president Sheikh Hasina directed the party to settle the conflicts before the next national elections and organize them well. He made it clear to the leaders that the upcoming elections will be competitive. The team has to be united to win there. At least 12 district and metropolitan committee presidents and general secretaries took part in this meeting held at Ganobhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister yesterday afternoon. The districts and cities are Rajshahi District and Metropolis, Khulna District and Metropolis, Dhaka District, Rangpur, Netrakona, Comilla South, Noakhali, Narail, Barguna, and Sherpur. Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan were present at this time. Awami League Trinamool leaders entered Ganabhaban around 11 am. The meeting started at half past noon. The discussion lasted for about three hours. The Awami League president listened attentively to each of the Trinamool leaders. Many of the district and metropolitan leaders present at the meeting want the nomination of the party in the upcoming national elections. Then the Awami League president said, ‘I will not nominate anyone by looking at their face. Nominations will be given to those whose organizational standing is good, and those whose status is good in the report. In the meeting, the leaders of several districts said that the members of parliament and public representatives are creating obstacles in various organizational activities. They want to keep an eye on the party. At that time, Sheikh Hasina said, “Those whom I have made the leaders of the party will lead the party.” He urged to unite the party before the elections. In the meeting, Sheikh Hasina directed organizing a conference quickly in the districts where the allied organizations have not had a committee for a long time. He said, Khulna District Women’s Awami League has not held a conference for 18 years. There should be an immediate conference. According to a source present in the meeting, General Secretary of Rajshahi District Awami League Abdul Wadud Dara and General Secretary of Rajshahi Metropolitan Awami League D.B. Sarkar highlighted various organizational problems. These two leaders accused Awami League presidium member and Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton of creating party conflict. In the meeting, General Secretary of Rajshahi Metropolitan Awami League D.B. Sarkar said, “Party people are spreading false propaganda against me through social media. If you say so, I will resign.’ At that time, the Awami League president said, ‘I have everyone’s report. Stay in the field, work.
