People are suffering due to inflation and load shedding: PM

Pointing out that the people of the country are suffering due to price inflation and load shedding, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that due to the increase in the prices of gas, oil and coal globally, electricity generation is also being disrupted. Can’t be bought with money.

Such is the situation. For which… I know people are having a bit of a hard time this summer. On the one hand inflation and on the other hand now there is no electricity – these two problems are facing the people of my country.

He said this at the inauguration of the new inter-city train on Chilahati-Dhaka-Chilahati route on Sunday (June 4) morning through video conference from Gana Bhavan.

Regarding the price of goods, the Prime Minister said, the price of every commodity has gone up globally as a result of the Corona Virus and especially the Ukraine-Russia war, sanctions-counter-sanctions on it. Our fuel prices have gone up, gas prices have gone up, food prices have gone up, wheat, sugar, whatever we are going to buy, everything has gone up, transport costs have gone up.

He said, the loans we have taken from abroad, they have increased the interest rate; As a result of which there is a pressure on our economy, we have some initiatives of our own to deal with it.

Regarding load shedding, the Prime Minister said, we will provide 100% electricity, we have provided electricity from house to house. But today, due to the increase in the price of gas, oil and coal all over the world, the production of electricity is also being disrupted. Can’t be bought with money. This is the situation. For which…I know people are having a bit of a hard time this summer.

On the one hand inflation and on the other hand now there is no electricity – these two problems are facing the people of my country.

Comparing the situation of Bangladesh with Europe, Sheikh Hasina said that European countries stopped using hot water during last winter. Because everything runs on electricity. Hot water off, heating off, such is their plight. Even going to the market had to buy limited.

A family can’t buy more than six eggs, can’t buy more than a liter of oil, can’t buy more than three tomatoes—that’s the situation. Bangladesh has not yet fallen into that predicament, inshallah it will not.

Prime Minister inaugurated the ‘Chilahati Express’ at the event. The train will run 6 days a week on the Dhaka-Chilahati route. The passenger capacity of this intercity train is 800 people.

Among others, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan spoke on the occasion. Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister moderated the program. Tofazzal Hossain Mia. Railway Secretary Humayan Kabir delivered the welcome speech.
