3 crore 81 lakh students are getting 30 crore new books

Around four crore students will get the scent of new books at the beginning of the new year. ‘Book Festival’ is being celebrated on Monday (January 01) by distributing textbooks.

According to the Ministry of Education and the National Curriculum and Textbook Board, 3 crore 81 lakh 28 thousand 354 students will get free new books. A total of 30 crore 70 lakh 83 thousand 517 books will be distributed in the book festival.

The Election Commission has asked to distribute books following some instructions even though it is a festival during the election period. In a letter to the secretary of the secondary and higher education department on December 24, the Election Commission (EC) has given permission for the book festival on January 1. Earlier permission was sought from the ministry to organize this event during the election period.

The EC’s letter of consent mentions that the government’s routine ‘Book Festival’ to officially distribute new textbooks across the country on January 1, 2024, as in other years.

Field level concerned departmental commissioners, district commissioners, upazila executive officers and all concerned will regularly distribute books among the students of various educational institutions of their respective workplaces.

Only the Election Commission has expressed disapproval of organizing a program by the Ministry of Education at Suaganj Tafajjal Ahmed Chowdhury High School and College under Sadar Dakshin Upazila of Comilla District.

The 12th National Assembly election will be held on January 7. Book festival is being held in the meantime.

3 crore 81 lakh 28 thousand 354 students from pre-primary to SSC and equivalent will be given free books during the book festival.

In the book festival of 2024 academic year, 3 million 80 thousand 205 people of pre-primary level, 1 crore 82 million 55 thousand 284 people of elementary level, 85 thousand 722 people of minority groups, 3 million 96 thousand 608 people from the first to fifth grade of Ibtedai, 3 million 96 thousand 608 people from sixth to ninth grade of secondary school. 4 crore 90 thousand 107 people, 24 lakh 23 thousand 348 people from sixth to ninth class of Dakhil, one lakh 73 thousand 855 people from sixth to ninth class of English version,Two lakh 71 thousand 952 people of technical trade book sixth to ninth class, six thousand 15 people of Dakhil Vocational and 724 people of Braille system; This total 3 crore 81 lakh 28 thousand 354 students will get free new books.

A total of 30 crore 70 lakh 83 thousand 517 books will be distributed in the book festival. Among them there are 40 lakh 96 thousand 628 teaching assistants.

New year textbook distribution program ‘Book Distribution Festival-2024’ will be held on Monday (January 1) among all pre-primary and primary level students. The festival has been organized at 10 am in the premises of the National Government Primary School in Mirpur of the capital.

State Minister of Primary and Mass Education. Zakir Hossain will be the chief guest and Ministry Secretary Farid Ahmed will attend the event as a special guest. The function will be presided over by Director General of Primary Education Directorate Shah Rezwan Hayat.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the free textbook distribution program among primary and secondary level students on 31 December 2024 academic year. He handed over new books to various students of primary and secondary levels at the Prime Minister’s office.

At that time, Education Minister Dipu Moni, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md. Zakir Hossain, Education Deputy Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel and related officials were present.
