Today marks the 71st birth anniversary of Sheikh Jamal, the second son of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Sheikh Jamal was born on April 28, 1954, in Tongipara, Gopalganj. A unique talent and a patriot at heart, Jamal was both a sports enthusiast and a lover of his country.

During the great Liberation War of 1971, he, like other members of his family, was also detained as a prisoner. Emerging from there, he underwent training with the Bangladesh Liberation Forces (BLF) in Agartala, India, and participated in the frontline battles of the Liberation War in Sector 9. Sheikh Jamal was the first batch commissioned officer of the Long Course of the Bangladesh Armed Forces.

Tragically, on the night of August 15, 1975, Sheikh Jamal was killed by the ruthless bullets of assassins, along with other members of his family. He completed his secondary education from Dhaka Residential Model School and College and passed his Higher Secondary from Dhaka College.

On his birthday, Bangladesh Awami League and allied organizations are commemorating Sheikh Jamal with deep respect and affection.

On the occasion of Sheikh Jamal’s birth anniversary, Bangladesh Awami League has organized a special prayer ceremony at Banani Graveyard at 9:00 AM, paying homage at his grave and praying for the forgiveness of his noble soul.
