Italy kept their Euro hopes alive on England’s night of victory

Italy had quite a solid path to the Euro success, especially after securing a crucial win against North Macedonia. The victory not only boosted their confidence but also kept their hopes alive in the main phase of the Euro. Their 5-2 win on home turf against North Macedonia was a decisive moment. Meanwhile, England also secured a win against Malta in the previous round, ensuring their direct qualification from Group C to the main Euro tournament.

Italy’s direct qualification for the Euro was largely anticipated, but the challenge against North Macedonia added an element of uncertainty. Despite their victory, Italy needs at least one point in their upcoming match against Ukraine on November 21 to secure their place in the Euros.

The match against North Macedonia saw Italy taking the lead within 17 minutes through Matteo Darmian’s goal. Federico Chiesa’s two goals in the first half at 41 and 52 minutes further solidified Italy’s position. Although Macedonia managed to score twice, Giacomo Raspadori and Stefano Sensi’s goals secured a convincing 5-2 win for Italy.

Italy’s win propelled them to the second spot in the group with 13 points in seven matches, while Ukraine is closely behind in third place. However, to secure direct qualification to the Euros, Italy must win or draw against Ukraine in their upcoming match.

Regarding the victory against North Macedonia, Federico Chiesa mentioned, “The important thing is that we won the match. Unfortunately, we conceded two goals. Now we will fight against Ukraine.”

On the same night, England secured their win with an early goal by Enrico Pepe in the 8th minute and a second goal by captain Harry Kane in the 75th minute against San Marino.
