Investing in Bangladesh will not incur losses, assures the Minister of Commerce to EU entrepreneurs

The Minister of Commerce, Tipu Munshi, has called upon European Union (EU) entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh. He stated, “Bangladesh is a good place for investment. While there may be some challenges here, there are also ample opportunities. We can resolve these challenges when the business community and the government work together.”

On Wednesday, at a seminar organized by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the EU in a hotel in the capital, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi assured EU investors, saying, “If you invest in Bangladesh, you will not incur losses.” The seminar focused on expanding trade and investment by EU companies operating in Bangladesh.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Tipu Munshi said, “I participated in a similar seminar in Amsterdam one month ago, and I conveyed the same message. There are issues in Bangladesh’s banking sector, and we acknowledge the problems in opening letters of credit. We believe that by working together, we can address these issues. Our exports are increasing; in this context, we expect more investment from the European Union.”

Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Lokman Hossain Miah, a special guest at the seminar, said, “Bangladesh is prepared for investment. We have 100 economic zones. To our European friends, you can collaborate with good companies here if you wish. Our goal is the same for everyone – more investment in Bangladesh. The crisis that existed will be resolved by December. Investors from BIDA will receive global services.”

During the farewell speech, Samir Sattar, President of DCCI, said, “There is no discrimination in trade with Bangladesh. Apart from trade, the EU can benefit from existing facilities for trade and investment in Bangladesh.”

DURING THE EVENT, the EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Charles Whiteley, mentioned the need for improvements in Bangladesh’s labor laws.
