At just 19 years old, Hamna Jafar, a Pakistani-American citizen, faced the toughest decision of her life. She had to choose between agreeing to an arranged marriage decided by her family or walking the path to fulfill her own dreams—a dilemma she grappled with. Ultimately, Hamna broke free from her family’s expectations and pursued her own goals. However, this journey was not without its challenges.
Born into a resident family in Maryland, USA, Hamna returned to her native Pakistan at the age of 19 in 2019. There, she discovered that her engagement ceremony had been arranged by her family. Despite being a traditional obligation, Hamna found herself conflicted. Nevertheless, she decided not to compromise her personal freedom and took the bold step of leaving her home.
Facing a crossroads, Hamna sought support from a friend’s family at college. Claudia Barrera, an American woman, extended a helping hand to Hamna, providing the necessary support for her education. Hamna now refers to Claudia as her mother. In 2022, Hamna Jafar took a courageous step forward by joining the United States Air Force. Currently working as a Security Defender, she overcame initial challenges during training due to cultural differences.
