3 hours of rain in Sylhet, water everywhere inside and outside

Sylhet city was flooded in just three hours of rain. On Sunday (July 2) morning, some rain started.

However, torrential rain fell from 12 noon to 3 pm. In this rain, everything from the main main road of the city is submerged. Water enters houses and shops.

Waist-deep water can be seen on many roads. Residents of the city did not go out of the house except for urgent needs. Those who come out, tread water up to their knees or waist. Many roads were blocked due to waterlogging.

It was seen on the ground, Jindabazar-Chowhatta Road, Madina Market, Pathantula, Akhalia, Subidbazar, Jalalabad, Payra and Rajargalli area of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) shrine, Barudkhana, Hawapara, Dariyapara, Jatarpur, Rhamarpar, Taltala area and inside the Osmani Medical College building. Flooding has occurred. In Sylhet till 6 am on Sunday, the rainfall in the previous 24 hours was about 111 mm. 130 millimeters of rain was recorded from 12 noon to 3 pm on Sunday, said Assistant Meteorologist of Sylhet Directorate of Meteorology Shah Md. Sajib Hossain.

According to the Meteorological Department, the trend of rainfall may increase in the next three days. And the residents of the city think that there is a danger of submergence of most areas of the city if it rains heavily.

The residents of the city blame the indifference of the city corporation for this waterlogging, saying that a new mayor was elected in the Sylhet city corporation elections held on June 21. As a result, the current mayor, his council and officials are not taking into account the problems of the people of the city. They are very indifferent. Lack of drainage system reform is the cause of this waterlogging.

Ajmal Ali, a resident of Arnab residential area of Mir Maidan in the metropolis, said that the city authorities are apathetic in improving the drainage system. Due to this, water rises in the houses in short rains. And if it rains heavily, there is nothing to say. Water entered my house today.

Noor Azizur Rahman, chief engineer of Sylhet City Corporation, said that due to torrential rain, it is taking time for the water to go down through the drain. Where water is blocked due to garbage, it is being cleaned. The city corporation team is working to clean the drains of the city.
