President Xi Jinping Emphasizes the Impact of China-US Relations on the Future of Humanity

Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that the determination of the future of humanity depends on the relationship between China and the United States. He made this remark during a meeting with a delegation from the Beijing Embassy of the United States Senate yesterday, Monday. The leader of the delegation, representing the highest-ranking local American official in Beijing, is Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who leads a delegation of six members. The delegation is undertaking this trip when Washington seeks to improve relations with Beijing.

During their important meeting in Beijing, Chuck Schumer told the Chinese President, “How China and the United States navigate their relationship in a changing and volatile world will determine the future and destiny of humanity.”

Xi mentioned, “I have said many times that there are thousands of reasons for the convergence of China and the United States, but there is no reason to end the relationship. I have told several U.S. presidents the same.”

He also emphasized that the China-US relationship is the most crucial bilateral relationship in the world. Schumer added, “Our two countries will determine the trajectory of this century together. It is imperative that we build our relationship with responsibility and respect.”

Prior to meeting Chuck Schumer, China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, said that Beijing and Washington could further narrow their differences in a more pragmatic way. He expressed hope that this could lead to a more constructive direction in the relationship between the two countries.

Wang referred to the world as being in a “time of dynamic change” and expressed hope that after this visit, the United States will have a more accurate understanding of China.

The top Chinese diplomat stated, “The Ukraine crisis has not yet been resolved. Conflict has erupted again in the Middle East. In the face of these challenges to the international community, both China and the United States should play their due roles.”
